This section is about my career to-date. I wrote it out trying to figure out how to market myself in my bio on [LinkedIn](https://linkedin.com/in/emsenn/). Having written it, I don't think it's really appropriate for that use, but I think it's a useful summary for people who might otherwise be unfamiliar with my work.

It was 2009, and my interest in computers and the Internet had led me to an interesting place: I was part of a small team of hackers who were focused on fighting against the Iranian government's Internet censorship. I had just left high school, but now I was responsible for managing a team of nearly a dozen, up against a nation-state.

It was a trial by fire that quickly forced me to focus on what I was good at, and to disregard the rest. As it turned out, what I was best at was handling the back-end management. I'd learn later that what I was doing was "business operations."

In the spring of 2010, we broke the firewall, and the group split up. I started consulting for other groups that did political activism, helping them develop "operational processes" for it, the same way they had processes for their human resources or marketing teams.

In 2014, I was in a severe auto accident which left me permanently disabled. It ended my career in political operations. Since then, I've been trying to plan what my new career should be.

For a couple years after, I helped local artistic friends build their brands. Again, I always found a way to bring it back to operations. After that, I worked as a content writer before starting my own satirical news website, which I shut down after the 2016 presidential election.

Until recently, I was working as for a small sales company, providing technical and operations support. But I wasn't satisfied with my role there, so in October 2018 I left to do two things I really wanted to do:

• Work with my buddy Tom as a writer and editor, so we started planning Gill and Sennhauser, our partnership.
• Consult on a short-term or single-session basis for small and medium businesses, helping them adopt the development methods I've been working with since my hacker days in the late 2000s.
