This essay will assume you are familiar with the 2016 presidential campaign, specifically the hacking of the DNC email servers and the subsequent release of those emails by Wikileaks. Also, I should disclose that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was at the top of my chain-of-command for a brief time in 2011.
During the 2016 United States presidential campaign, [Roger Stone](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/21/us/roger-stone-donald-trump-russia.html) made multiple statements about his association with Guccifer 2.0 (the hacker who acquired the Democratic National Committee's emails) and Wikileaks. While he's since downplayed that association, he has [explicitly stated he communicated with Guccifer 2.0](https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-roger-stone-guccifer-20170311-story.html).
On July 13, 2018, Special Counsel [Robert Mueller](http://localhost:8000/robert-muellers-life-and-career/) indicted twelve employees of the GRU - Russia's state military intelligence agency. The [indictment details that GRU officers used the pseudonym Guccifer 2.0](https://www.justice.gov/file/1080281/download).
Special Counsel Mueller has also been attempting to determine if President Donald Trump was aware of the emails stolen from the DNC prior to Wikileaks releasing them. His investigators have also asked about[the relationship between Roger Stone and Julian Assange](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/mueller-asking-what-trump-knew-about-hacked-emails-n851941?cid=sm%5Fnpd%5Fnn%5Ftw%5Fnp), the founder of WikiLeaks, who [chose not to release information that could damage the Russian state](https://foreignpolicy.com/2017/08/17/wikileaks-turned-down-leaks-on-russian-government-during-u-s-presidential-campaign/) and instead, [knowingly shared information provided to him by that same government](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-did-wikileaks-become-associated-with-russia/).
Several of Roger Stone's associates have been subpoenaed this year:
- [John Kakanis](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-mueller-subpoena-exclusive/exclusive-special-counsel-subpoenas-another-stone-aide-in-russia-probe-sources-idUSKCN1IJ2MV), who has worked as Stone's aide.
- [Jason Sullivan](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-mueller/mueller-issues-grand-jury-subpoenas-to-trump-advisers-social-media-consultant-idUSKCN1IH2OB), who worked as Stone's aide and as a social media consultant for a political action committee established by Stone.
- [Sam Nunberg](https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/376710-mueller-subpoenas-witness-for-documents-tied-to-trump-campaign), who worked for the Trump campaign.
Today, a third aide to Roger Stone, Jerome Corsi, [subpoenaed in November 2017](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/29/us/politics/comedian-is-subpoenaed-in-inquiry-on-russia-meddling.html), who alleged to be the connection between Stone and Assange, [gave an interview to MSNBC's Ari Melber](https://www.msnbc.com/the-beat-with-ari-melber/watch/key-mueller-witness-i-lied-and-i-m-ready-to-die-in-jail-1383185475967?v=railb), in which he claimed to have lied to Congress, tried to get the DNC emails to the Trump campaign, "absolutely" with the intention of assisting Trump's campaign. He claims to have told Roger Stone about the emails, and that his lawyers are still in communication with Trump's legal team.

Roger Stone, months ago, [stated he was "prepared"](https://www.npr.org/2018/05/21/613117543/trump-adviser-roger-stone-says-hes-prepared-if-indicted-by-special-counsel-muell) to be indicted by Special Counsel Mueller, claiming the scandal is a hoax.
Considering that…
- …George Papadapolous, Trump's campaign foreign policy advisor, pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI…
- …Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chair, was indicted on 25 counts leading to 8 convictions and a plea deal with Mueller…
- …Rick Gates, a campaign aide to Trump and Manafort's junior business partner, pleaded guilty to making a false statement and a conspiracy charge…
- …Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, pleaded guilty to making false statements…
- …12 employees of the Internet Research Agency, colloquially known as the Russian Troll Farm, and their alleged financier, Yevgeny Prigozhin, were indicted on conspiracy charges and identity theft…
- …Richard Pinedo pleaded guilty to assisting Russian officers in conducting that identity theft….
- …Alex van der Zwaan, a London-based lawyer, pleaded guilty to making false statements…
- …Konstantin Kilimnik, an associate of Manafort and Gates, was charged with attempting to obstruct justice, by tampering with witnesses related to Manafort's then-pending case…
- …12 GRU officers were charged with hacking and leaking the DNC emails…
- …Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer, pleaded guilty to 8 counts of tax and bank charges…
- …Sam Patten, a Republican operative, pleaded guilty to not registering as a foreign agent.
…I'm left wondering what preparations he attempted.
